isla bastimentos . bocas del toro . republic of panama
Mangrove estuaries throughout the archipelago are abundant. Most of the leeward sides of the islands in Bocas del Toro are covered in mature and lush mangrove. There are also hundreds of mangrove islets scattered throughout the archipelago, most of which are protected by Bastimentos National Marine Park. Many of these areas are surrounded with patch reef, coral, sand and turtle grass flats.
Casting plugs and fly tackle around the mangroves can produce small to midsize snapper, barracuda and jacks. Sea kayaks provide the perfect platform for stalking these shallow water estuaries. It is possible to leave directly from our dock, or be transported by support boat, which can drop us at another location. Then we will fish our way back to Tranquilo Bay. The scenery is breathtaking and the reefs are pristine, we like to take snorkel gear with us, so if the big ones aren’t biting, we can go in after them.
